SEPA’s Chief Executive Terry A’Hearn has a vision for SEPA “the only successful societies in the 21st Century will be ones that are very low in environmental impact. This will require major innovation. SEPA knows we need to support people and businesses across Scotland to do this. So, we need the best people working for us to help Scotland be a hotbed of innovation that will drive 21st Century success.  With this is mind SEPA is looking to recruit a Scientist (Oceanography/Modelling).

Providing advice on the modelling and monitoring of oceanographic dispersion processes, you’ll play a key role in SEPA’s mission to protect the Scottish environment for generations to come.

You’ll provide modelling, monitoring and analysis of oceanographic processes in support of investigations and projects. We’ll expect you to work with colleagues to proactively develop tools, methods, documentation and procedures to ensure even better results.  SEPA receives modelling and monitoring reports in support of applications to discharge waste to the sea. You’ll comprehensively assess those reports - from the scientific methods used through to key assumptions and risks.

Whether writing reports, delivering presentations or influencing change, you’ll need to demonstrate excellent communication skills and innovative thought. Ideally qualified to postgraduate level in a relevant subject, your knowledge spans oceanographic processes and instrumentation, key concepts in marine chemistry/biology, computer programming, data analysis and visualisation and methods for assessing waste discharge to the sea. The ability to apply analytical and numerical models and process data to achieve practical outcomes within these fields is essential.  More detailed information on this post is available at http://jobs.sepa.org.uk/.
