Under climate change and rapid urbanization, the environment and ecology in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Metropolitan Region have gradually deteriorated. The Capital Eco-sphere is an ecological zone based on the integrality of ecosystems and similarities in environment problems. This study investigated land cover types in the Capital Eco-sphere using satellite images from 2010,and estimated ecosystem services based on ecological pricing methods. The results indicate that forest, grassland and farmland constituted the majority of land cover in the Capital Eco-sphere. Forest and grass cover were mainly distributed in the western and northern area, and farmland was in the southeastern area, all of which account for the main body of green space. The total ecosystem service value was estimated to be 944 billion CNY,nearly 2.88 CNY per square meter; higher ecosystem values were allocated to water conservation, biodiversity protection, carbon fixation and oxygen release. The wetland ecosystem in Tianjin,Tangshan and Cangzhou provided the maximum ecosystem service value per unit area, while the forest and grassland ecosystems located in the western and northern areas had the highest total economic value because the areas of forest and grassland were greater than the area of wetland. Although there were some spatial differences in dominant ecosystem services, regions such as Chengde,Chifeng and Zhangjiakou have abundant vegetation cover providing vital ecological protection because of national policies and engineering measures such as the Three-North Shelter Forest Program. These results will clarify the spatial heterogeneity of the ecosystem service values in the capital eco-sphere and are valuable for future ecological protection cooperation in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Metropolitan Region.
