To understand impact of climate change, more studies are focused to analyze characteristics and tendency of regional climate changes. Close to 50 years of data on precipitation, temperature, sunshine hours, frost-free period, average wind speed and evaporation from west to east in the Hetao Irrigation District are collected in this study. Linear trend method, Mann-Kendell method and Wavelet analysis were used to clarify trends, mutations and periodicities of meteorological factors at different times and in different areas of the district. It was found that annual mean temperature in the last 50 years increased by about 2℃ in this area. Extreme monthly temperature difference was about 41℃, monthly mean temperature showed a maked rising trend with main periodicity of 2 and 16 years and a mutation in 1990. Annual precipitation showed a weak upward trend during fluctuation. The increase was smaller than 10 mm, whereas the annual evaporation showed a clear increasing trend with total of over 300 mm mainly concentrated in spring including February, March and April. Average annual wind speed decreased significantly with main periodicity of 2 and 16 years and a mutation in 2000. Total annual sunshine hour has become shorter, frost-free period longer but the trends were not marked.
