Raising groundwater level is the key to the ecological restoration in Shiyang river basin. Based on the monitoring and investigation data of water resources in Shiyang river basin from 2003 to 2017,the characteristics of groundwater dynamic since valley harnessing were studied by using statistical analysis method and ArcGIS software so as to assess watershed management effect. The results show the monthly fluctuation of groundwater level within a year varied. The monthly groundwater level in Qingtu Lake changes slowly and reaches high value at the end of year but fluctuates in Minqin-Wuwei basin greatly and has deep fall in summer and autumn. In Jinchuan-Yongchang basin, water table is high in spring and declines to stability. Since beginning of watershed comprehensive management, annual groundwater level continuously rises up in Qintu Lake and rallies in midstream Minqin-Wuwei basin. And in Jinchang-Yongchang basin, the groundwater level tends toward stability after sharply descend in initial years. In the general, the groundwater dynamic in Shiyang river watershed were affected by both climate and human activities, and the latter factors always had more great impact such as the unified management of water resources in river basin. Now although the prophase goal watershed management have accomplished, but the groundwater level in most areas of the basin has not yet recovered to the requirement of the natural vegetation growth,so the follow-up management of the basin should be continued in next stage.
