Join Future Earth for a series of events at this major conference on meeting international targets for ocean sustainability.

Future Earth will take part in several events at the United Nations Ocean Conference, which will be held in New York from 5 to 9 June 2017. This major event focuses on how the world can meet the ambitions of Sustainable Development Goal 14, a series of international targets for improving ocean health. The conference, which will bring together leaders from government, research, civil society and more, includes dialogues, exhibitions and side events.

Representatives from Future Earth will attend the conference and are helping to organise two side events:

Presentation of a new Ocean Knowledge-Action Network (KAN) partnership between Future Earth, the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic commission of Unesco and the World Climate Research Program - uniting researcher and stakeholder over making science more relevant and impactful.

Ocean Literacy: What’s needed to fully implement SGD14?

In this session jointly convened by Future Earth, the International Council for Science (ICSU), the Earth Journalism Network/UC Berkeley and the New School’s Journalism & Design Programme, we will facilitate a dialogue between science and the media on why and how to improve ocean literacy. It will include a broad range of world leading communicators from TED, the New School, Earth Journalism Network and Cornell University who will focus on the challenges of communicating ocean health.

Speakers for this event include:

  • Allison Lichter Joseph, Assistant Professor of Journalism and Design, The New School
