英文摘要: | Family engagement in the education of young children is associated with numerous positive outcomes for those children, and parents and other family members play an important role as "teachers" during the time children spend outside the classroom. Home-based involvement (e.g., a parent-led educational activity), school-based involvement (e.g., volunteering in the classroom), and school-home conferencing (e.g., speaking to a teacher about a child's progress) are the key components of family engagement, but there are barriers to all three. In this policy brief, we describe both the barriers that hinder family engagement and the ways in which technology may afford new opportunities to improve early childhood education outcomes — empowering families to become better educators at home, and strengthening connection and communication between school and home. |
